about the artists

Over the past 30 years, Anita Gilbert and Anthony Vodraska have worked, raised a family and pursued their passion for art in seven countries, mostly in Africa.  They relocated to Spencer, Iowa and established X-Alt Art Studios as a collaborative space to continue their exploration of traditional and modern artistic techniques.

“Together-An Artistic Journey” is a collection of their work, including naked clay, a clay without glaze, as well as more traditional ceramics and paintings. This exhibition will include information in the techniques and materials used by the artists.  These works include raku, saggar firing, monotypes and digital fine arts.

Anita Gilbert has exhibited her paintings and ceramics in numerous galleries and museums in many countries, and has published articles in the National Ceramics Journal of South Africa.

Anthony Vodraska has had a diverse career in the U.S. Foreign Service.  He has a passion for photography and ceramics and he has won national awards in Botswana and been exhibited in the national gallery.

Several pieces have been created by Anthony, specifically for the show at Arts on Grand and will be for sale.  “Together-An Artistic Journey” will be on display until February 6, 2008.
