ABOUT THE EXHIBIT & THE ARTIST

"Focus on Corn!"  features photographs taken by David Cavagnoro, a writer, photographer, biologist, and teacher who lives on a farm in Iowa.  David is an editorial photographer whose work has been featured in numerous magazines and their covers, including National Geographic, The Iowan, The American Gardner, The American West, Pacific Horticulture, and Mother Earth news amongst numerous others.  He finds photography a tool that "helps one learn and see".
The primary subject photographs of corn are on loan to us from Iowa State University's Plant Science Institute, where they were used to help promote the University's corn genome studies in their booth at 2006 Iowa State Fair.  When not on display at Arts on Grand, they hang in Schnable Laboratory at ISU.
As an editorial photographer David retains a collection of his work as it was published in the periodicals that employed or commissioned him to photograph specific subject matter.  These "tear sheets" from the numerous magazines that have featured David's work are also on display through the duration of the exhibit.
Annually Arts on Grand invites area photographers to participate in their photo contest by submitting entries that support a specific theme.  The 2007 photo contest theme focuses on the Bounty of Iowa.  David Cavagnaro will be the Photo Contest judge.  Contest entries will be on display through the end of the exhibit.
