The Twilight Samurai

This is the story of a man trained as a samurai warrior but who doesn't fight alongside of the samurai.  The man is a recent widower who is more concerned with caring for his two daughters and his ailing mother.  His reluctance to fight makes him a curiosity - and soon leads to an assignment that could cost him his life.

Babette's Feast

(English)

This is an encore performance of the film series lovers favorite movie.  The movie opens with two sisters who reject the opportunity to leave their home in a sparse Danish village.  Enter a French cook named Babette 35 years later, seeking asylum from the ravages of the French Revolution.  When Babette wins the lottery she decides to prepare a feast for the sisters to thank them for their kindness and to give them a taste of what the world outside of their village has to hold.

The Battle of Algiers

Shot in the streets of Algiers in documentary style, this film vividly recreates the tumultuous Algerian uprising  against the occupying French.  A war drama that's astonishingly relevant today.

Elling
(2001 - Norwegian with English subtitles)

Elling is a shy, retiring young man who is mentally challenged.  Follow the adventures of Elling and his friend Kjell as they attempt to create a life for themselves outside the confines of the hospital they live in.
