Isaac Brockshus and Elizabeth Gergel!

Isaac Brockshus and Elizabeth Gergel will present an evening concert at Arts on Grand on July 31st at 7:00pm. Isaac was born and raised in Spencer and began playing the keyboard as a young boy. After high school, he attended UNI and earned a degree in music. From there, Isaac earned his master’s degree at University of South Carolina in Composition. Isaac has been heavily involved with beginner chamber groups as a coach, composer, and composition teacher in music festivals throughout the Midwest. His growing body of works for young chamber ensembles are collected at and
continue to receive repeat performances.

Isaac is the son of Ross and Beth Brockshus and the grandson of Shirley Kooker and Del and Charon Brockshus. The suggested offering for this concert is $10. Light refreshments will be served and the public is cordially invited to attend.


Elizabeth Gergel learned to play the cello before she could read. Now that she can do both, she is a passionate performer and teacher. Before her recent move away from South Carolina, she played with the South Carolina Philharmonic, the Symphony Orchestra of Augusta, GA, and the Long Bay Symphony in Myrtle Beach, SC. At the age of 16 Elizabeth debuted as a soloist with the Asheville Youth Orchestra. She is an active teacher, formerly serving on the faculty of the Palmetto Center for the Arts in Columbia and the Suzuki Strings program at the University of South Carolina. She has taught cellists ranging from 3 to 28 years old.
            Elizabeth just completed her undergraduate studies with Dr. Robert Jesselson of the University of South Carolina, having previously studied with Dr. Christopher Hutton of Furman University and Frances Duff of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra. She will begin a Master’s in Music this fall at the University of Oregon studying with Dr. Steven Pologe. Elizabeth has performed in masterclasses for many renowned cellists, including Lawrence Lesser of the New England Conservatory, Ashley Bathgate of the duo TwoSense, Alan Harrel of the Cleveland Orchestra, and Kee-Hyun Kim of the Parker Quartet.
